The Noosa Jazz party

The Noosa heads Jazz club

Stages an annual event called the Noosa Jazz Party.

A real celebration of traditional jazz and a unique event - unlike any other jazz festival in Australia!

The Noosa Jazz Party is staged in late August to early September each year and usually over nine or ten days culminating in a closing event on Father’s Day.

Its unique because we bring together in the one location, individual jazz musicians who are the among the best in Australia. They form into unique bands or ensembles challenging their skills and leading to exciting improvisation.

With performances at theatres, restaurants, cafes, clubs, on river cruises and outdoor settings you can get to hear the best traditional jazz musicians in the wonderful Noosa district with its beaches, national parks and hinterland.

A perfect time to visit noosa

Why do so many of our visitors return time and time again?

They come to Noosa for two main reasons:

  • One to listen to the best jazz musicians that Australia has to offer.

  • Secondly to enjoy the sunny, mild Noosa days and emerge from the chills of winter.

about the noosa jazz party

First presented in 1992 by a group of volunteers and enthusiastic local jazz musicians as the Noosa Jazz Party. Two years later it was rebadged as the Noosa Jazz Festival and run as a commercial operation.

The Noosa Heads Jazz Club revived the original Jazz Party format in 2011 initially as the traditional component of the Noosa Jazz Festival and in 2016 as an event in its own right when the event company that organised the Noosa Jazz Festival ceased operating.

No other jazz festival in Australia offers the prospect of enjoying more than 25 of Australia's top traditional jazz musicians, plus high-profile overseas musicians all performing in one locality.

Planning is well underway for the 2022 Noosa Jazz Party to celebrate our emergence from the disruptions and lockdowns and border restrictions of 2020 and 2021

‘JAZZ AT THE J’ will be staged over 4 days at The J Theatre in Noosa Junction is the centrepiece attraction, with a ‘GALA CONCERT’ at the Heritage Listed Majestic Theatre at Pomona in Noosa‘s hinterland as the opening event.

During the next week and following weekend, visitors and locals can enjoy listening to jazz over luncheons and dinners at participating restaurants, clubs, cafes and on a river cruise.

Pop-up bands entertain the public with jazz at Sunshine Beach, Hastings Street, Noosaville and the Marina at Tewantin.

The Jazz Party comes to a close with  the traditional Fathers' Day free concert on the shores of the Noosa River in Noosaville.
